कुशल-शासक व्यवस्था के मूल्य मानक गढ़े, बल्कि सामाजिकता, सेवा एवं परोपकार के नये आयाम भी उद्घाटित किये। जन कल्याण एवं सेवा के क्षेत्र में भी उन्होंने अनेक कार्य किए। भारत ऐसी ही आदर्श नारी चरित्रों की गौरव-गाथा से विश्व गुरु कहलाता था। इस वर्ष 31 मई, 2025 को उनकी जन्म जयन्ती का त्रिशताब्दी दिवस है। कभी-कभी वास्तविक जीवन की घटनाएं कहानियों से भी अधिक अद्भुत, साहसी, रोमांचकारी एवं विलक्षण होती है। सच यह भी है कि कभी-कभी जिन्दगी की किताब के किरदार कहानियों, फिल्मों एवं उपन्यासों के किरदारों से भी कहीं अधिक सशक्त और अविस्मरणीय होते हैं। लौह महिला महारानी अहिल्याबाई होल्कर का व्यक्तित्व व कृतित्व भी ऐसा ही है, जो उन्हें विश्व की श्रेष्ठतम महिलाओं की पंक्ति में अग्रणी बनाता है, जिनका भारत के इतिहास और जनमानस पर विशेष प्रभाव रहा है। वे भारतीय इतिहास की एक विलक्षण, साहसी, दूरदर्शी, दार्शनिक एवं पराक्रमी नायिका है। राजमाता अहिल्याबाई होलकर, मालवा साम्राज्य की होलकर रानी थीं। उन्हें भारत की सबसे दूरदर्शी एवं साहसी महिला शासकों में से एक माना जाता है। 18वीं शताब्दी में, मालवा की महारानी के रूप में, धर्म का संदेश फैलाने में, नयी शासन-व्यवस्था स्थापित करने और औद्योगीकरण के प्रचार-प्रसार में उनका महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा था। अतीत से आज तक वे व्यापक रूप से अपनी बुद्धिमत्ता, साहस और प्रशासनिक कौशल में जन्मी अहिल्या, एक साधारण परिवार से थीं। उनके पिता मनकोजी राव शिंदे, ग्राम प्रधान थे, जिन्होंने उन्हें पढ़ना-लिखना सिखाया था। एक युवा लड़की के रूप में, उनकी सादगी और सुचरित्र के संयोजन ने, मालवा क्षेत्र के राजा मल्हार राव होलकर का ध्यान उनकी ओर आकर्षित किया। वे युवा अहिल्या से इतने प्रभावित थे कि 1733 में जब वे मुश्किल से आठ साल की भी नहीं हुई थीं, तब उन्होंने उनका विवाह अपने बेटे खंडेराव होलकर से करवा दिया। उनकी शादी के बारह साल बाद, कुम्हेर किले की घेराबंदी के दौरान, उनके पति खंडेराव की मृत्यु हो गई। अहिल्याबाई इतनी आहत हुईं कि उन्होंने सती होने का फ़ैसला कर लिया। लेकिन उनके ससुर मल्हार राव ने उन्हें इतना कठोर कदम उठाने से रोक लिया और अहिल्या को अपनी छत्र-छाया में लेकर, उन्हें सैन्य, राजनीतिक और प्रशासनिक मामलों में प्रशिक्षित किया। राज-काज की बारीकियां समझाई।‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’- मुझे अंधकार से प्रकाश की ओर ले चलो। ज्योति की यात्रा मनुष्य की शाश्वत अभीप्सा है। इस यात्रा का उद्देश्य है, प्रकाश की खोज। प्रकाश उसे मिलता है, जो उसकी खोज करता है। कुछ व्यक्तित्व प्रकाश के स्रोत होते हैं। वे स्वयं प्रकाशित होते हैं और दूसरों को भी निरंतर रोशनी बांटते हैं। अहिल्याबाई ऐसा ही एक लाइटहाउस था यानी प्रकाश-गृह, जिसके चारों ओर रोशनदान थे, खुले वातायन थे। उनका चिंतन, शासन-व्यवस्था, संस्कृति-प्रेम, संभाषण, आचरण, सृजन, सेवा, परोपकार- ये सब ऐसे खुले वातायन थे, जिनसे निरंतर आलोक प्रस्फुटित होता रहा और पूरी मानवजाति को उपकृत किया। राजमाता अहिल्याबाई होलकर का जीवन अनेक संकटों एवं संघर्षों का साक्षी बना। एक के बाद एक पहाड जैसे दुःख, आघात उन्हें झेलने पड़े। 1766 में अहिल्या के ससुर मल्हार राव का भी निधन हो गया। उसके अगले ही वर्ष, उन्होंने अपने बेटे माले राव को भी खो दिया। बेटे को खोने का दुःख उन्होंने अपने ऊपर हावी नहीं होने दिया। राज्य और अपनी प्रजा के कल्याण को ध्यान में रखते हुए उन्होंने पेशवा से, मालवा के शासन को संभालने की अनुमति मांगी। हालांकि, कुछ अभिजातों ने इसका विरोध किया, लेकिन उन्हें सेना का समर्थन प्राप्त था। सेना को उन पर पूरी श्रद्धा और विश्वास था, क्योंकि वह सैन्य और प्रशासनिक मामलों में अच्छी तरह से प्रशिक्षित थीं। उन्होंने कई मौकों पर सेना का नेतृत्व किया था और एक सच्चे योद्धा की तरह लड़ाई लड़ी थी। 1767 में, पेशवा ने अहिल्याबाई को मालवा पर अधिकार करने की अनुमति दे दी। 11 दिसंबर 1767 को वे गद्दी पर बैठीं और इंदौर की शासक बनीं। अगले 28 वर्षों तक महारानी अहिल्याबाई ने न्यायोचित, बुद्धिमत्तापूर्ण और ज्ञानपूर्वक तरीके से मालवा पर शासन किया। अहिल्याबाई के शासन के तहत, मालवा में शांति, समृद्धि, खुशहाली और स्थिरता बनी रही। साथ ही साथ उनकी
